The Greater Zephyrhills Chamber of Commerce will be ushering in 2015 with the Zephyrhills 5th Annual Pigz in Z’Hills BBQ & Blues Festival and invites BBQ & Blues enthusiasts to Fly-in or Drive-in to the Zephyrhills Municipal Airport on January 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Always a smart deal, BBQ & Blues offers a value-packed day of fun for aviation and history enthusiasts as well as BBQ & Blues fans. Admission is Free with $10 Parking.
From the start, Pigz In Z’hills BBQ & Blues has centered around a professional and backyard BBQ competition sanctioned by the Florida BBQ Association (FBA). But there’s so much more, and more of it, this year.
New this year is a Trains, Planes and Monster Trucks Zone where kids can hop on a barrel train ride that circles around an assortment of airplanes, trucks and military museum displays.
This is the first year that the event will have two Kidz Zones, one on each end of the venue. The popular human gavatron, rock wall and bungie trampoline will be back as will arcade games, face-painting, and bounce houses. The YMCA family fun zone will bring back the “Pig Pen” stock full of good ol’ fashioned arts & crafts and games.
Event goers will have 20 BBQ vendors to choose from as well as more than 15 concessionaires for tasty snacks, treats and beverages to keep their bellies full and taste buds satisfied while perusing the variety of vendors and checking out the Show-N-Shine, business showcase, Museum of Military History and Zephyrhills Airport Aviation Displays. The BloodOne Blood Mobile will be on site giving away $5 in Pigz Bucks to donors.
Organizers ensure a toe-tapping time at Center Stage with yet another impressive line-up of Blues performances by TC Carr and Bolts of Blue (3:45pm), Lauren Mitchell Band (2:00pm), Doug Deming and the Jewel Tones (12:15pm), and Cold Iron (10:30am).
The stage area features cold and hot beverage service by the Chamber of Commerce and covered seating at the Swine Terrace by Sonny’s BBQ.
Pigz In Z’hills BBQ & Blues benefits local youth and education programs and community services of the Chamber of Commerce. Its success has allowed the Chamber to “Pay it Forward” with donations to scholarships, youth leadership programs and children’s charities every year since its inception.
As Zephyrhills Official FBA Contest Rep have noted, “(we) appreciate the goals of the contest to provide a great outing for families, friendships, and fun for all ages and we are proud to participate in an event where family values are held high.”
The event was recognized by the Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture & Arts as an Impact Award Finalist in 2014 and this year’s event is backed by VisitFlorida – Enterprise Florida’s Tourism Arm.
BBQ & Blues Fest will be held at Zephyrhills Municipal Airport Jan. 17 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Parking is $10, admission is free. Zephyrhills Municipal Airport is located at 39450 South Ave. in Zephyrhills. Sorry, no coolers, or pets allowed, but lawn chairs are encouraged.
