Habitat011112

PASCO COUNTY, FL - In February and March construction crews of female volunteers will raise their hammers at a Habitat for Humanity of East & central Pasco County construction site. The Women Build project this year is also a milestone for the local Habitat. This will be Habitat for Humanity of East & Central Pasco County’s 100th home built. Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity are looking for local women to volunteer for a day at their Habitat construction site. Construction or home improvement experience is not necessary.
Habitat for Humanity of East & Central Pasco will be holding a Women Build informational Meeting/Mixer on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 6:00 -7:30 p.m. at Wesley Chapel Toyota. Please join us.
Women Build challenges women to devote at least one day in the effort to help eliminate poverty housing. The event has drawn more than 20,000 female volunteers from all 50 states and 30 countries. Habitat for Humanity of East & Central Pasco County’s Women Build 2012 dates: Friday & Saturday, February 3rd & 4th, February 17th & 18th, March 2nd & 3rd, 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
This home will be completed and dedicated the Saturday before Mother’s Day, during National Women Build Week. The Mother’s Day timeframe was selected for its significance to many volunteers. Families with children make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing. More than 12 million children - one in six - live in poverty housing in the United States alone.
To date, female volunteers have built more than 1,900 Habitat houses nationwide during National Women Build Week. Locally, Habitat for Humanity of East & Central Pasco has built three Women Build houses.
“Women Build is not about excluding men. It is about including and empowering women. It is about opening new doors of opportunity. Men are involved in our Women Build projects in supportive roles. On March 31st, Habitat’s Women Build/Men Bake fund-raising event will challenge prominent men to show off their skills in the kitchen for our worthy cause. The Women Build/Men Bake Event will be held at the prestigious 4G Ranch in Land O’ Lakes, tickets will go on sale late January on www.habitatpasco.org”, said Stephanie Black, director of development and public relations for Habitat.
Lowe’s is contributing more than $1.3 million to National Women Build Week and providing $5,000 Lowe’s gift cards and building materials to more than 250 Habitat affiliates. National Women Build Week is one of the major initiatives supported through Lowe’s five-year, $20 million pledge to Habitat.
As the underwriter of the Women Build program since 2004, Lowe’s conducts how-to clinics at stores to teach women construction skills and empower them to support Habitat projects across the country.
To volunteer, sponsor, or donate to this project, please call Stephanie Black (352)567-1444 or email sblack@habitatpasco.org
