Ridge Manor’s Matt Huggins recently passes his green belt test. It normally takes at least 18 months to reach the green belt level, the mid-way point on a martial artist’s journey to Black Belt. Matt did it in 12 months of hard training, effort, self discipline & goal setting. Huggins needed an overall score of 75% on the 3 test that he had to pass for his green belt. He scored 92%!! “Matt is an extremely dedicated & serious student,” said his instructor, 10th Degree Black Belt William Spivey. “And, he has great support at home.” Matthew’s parents, Angela & Chuck Huggins, take him & his sister (Maekayla) to Spivey Karate in Dade City, at least twice a week. Everyone in the Huggins family is involved in the Spivey Karate programs. Angela holds a 5th level yellow belt in the karate class and was recently promoted to yellow sash in the Tai Chi program. Chuck is a 4th level yellow belt. Maekayla was also recently promoted to the orange belt rank. All are enrolled in, & hold rank in, the Black Belt Club of America programs for weapons & traditional karate training. Both Maekayla and Matt have been admitted into the BBCA’s American Masters program where they train in master’s level Black Belt material. Matt & Maekayla are also training in the ancient art of Sai Jitsu. Matt’s anticipated date for his Black Belt test is in November of 2013. “I am sure that he will beat that date,” said Spivey.
