Summer Sports Void Still Lives Here
Thursday, July 21, 2011
I know we have some summer sports activity going on in the area but something that still exists in my memory is the old men and women’s recreation softball league games that were played almost nightly at old Massey Field. The supervisor of those fast and slow pitch game was the late Dade City Recreation Director LAMAR WATSON and his very efficient sidekick JIM HEISER.
I know that we are not to live in the past, but things keep coming up that reminds me of some fun and thrilling days in Dade City. A little while back I ran into H.C. NESBITT and EDDIE HINES former players in the summer recreation softball league. We enjoyed talking about the fun nights and thrills we had in the old league. I know we still have some pick-up leagues here and there but none organized like they were under the leadership of Lamar and Jim. MIDGE we will always remember LAMAR.
Pirates And Bulldogs Are In Football District 5A-6
Recently I have listed the Pasco Pirates and Zephyrhills Bulldogs as being members of District 5A-7 in football. Regardless of what I print in the future the local teams are in Class 5A-6. Call it carelessness, uninformed or just simply confused. Some readers are really confused as to how the two schools jumped from Class 3A to 5A. No the school enrollments have not increased that much. The FHSAA has simply added two classes 7 and 8A thus moving just about everyone up two classes.
With fall practice drawing closer with each day the three east Pasco schools continue to hold their summer drills. The district favored Pirates have some work to do with their offensive and defensive lines. They must also replace some key players in the defensive secondary. The Pirates and Wesley Chapel Wildcats continue to participate in 7-on-7 competition.
