Lady Pirates Capture District 4A-7 Softball Title, Host Lecanto Thursday
Wednesday, April 27, 2011
Congratulations to Coach LISA HERNDON and her Pasco Lady Pirates for winning last week’s District 4A-7 softball tournament. The (23-7) Pirates with their 8-0
shutout of Mitchell in the district championship game will host LeCanto Thursday night in a 4A quarterfinal contest.
In the Mitchell game COURTNEY BRANDT struck out 15 and had a perfect 3-for-3 night at the plate. JORDAN LANE blasted
a bases loaded double to help pace the Big Red attack. District runner-up Mitchell will travel to play 4A-8 winner
River Ridge.
Pirates Open Spring Grid Drills Monday
Pirate head football Coach TOM MCHUGH is more than ready to get his squad on
the practice field this coming Monday afternoon to open 20 days of spring drills. When asked recently if he was
ready to begin spring practice he stated, “I have been ready to begin.” He and his coaching staff will have to
replace some good defensive players but on the other side of the ball they return some key players like quarterback
JACOB GUY, running backs DAVID EMMANUEL and JANARIAN GRANT and wide receiver TREY DUDLEY-GILES.
Calvary Christian Replaces American Heritage
The 2011 Pirates will be favorites to win their fifth straight district
championship. The regular season will open on September 2 at W.F. EDWARDS STADIUM against Ormond Beach Calvary
Christian. The small class 3A (1A Last year) school replaces American Heritage on the schedule. Despite being a
small school of some 600 students (450 students last year) the Lions compiled a 7-3 record including a playoff
berth. When asked about scheduling Calvary Christian Coach McHugh stated, “We tried to keep South Sumter on the
schedule. When that didn’t work out we called Crystal River and - other nearby schools."
