Brandon Buchanan Achieves 4th Black Belt

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

Ridge Manor resident, Brandon Buchanan, recently passed his 4th Black Belt test. The 17 year old, who trains at Spivey Karate in Dade City, successfully completed his Black Belt test in Sai Jitsu. Sai Jitsu is a Japanese-Okinawan weapon discipline using the traditional Okinawan sai. In order to achieve a Black Belt, students must master 9 500 year old sai katas, of which 5 have between 60 and 100 moves in them. The Zephryhills High School senior has been attending Spivey Karate for over 2 years to train in this extremely challenging rarely taught martial art style. Buchanan’s next goal is to pass his 2nd Degree Black Belt tests in karate, weapons, and Traditional Japanese Chito Ryu in March. For more info on Spivey Karate call (352) 518-9409. (Thank you William Spivey for submission of article & photo.)
