WANTED: Creatures of The Night!
Wednesday, September 29, 2010
For some, Halloween is a reason to dress up in costumes and have a good time with friends; for others it is also an opportunity to volunteer!
There are several opportunities this year at Hillsborough State Park. Volunteers can helps in many ways: from children’s coloring contest to tram rides through the park, spooky displays on the Haunted Trail, assisting rangers at the main entrance, helping differently-abled park visitors to enjoy the event to the fullest, or even guiding tours. “There is a lot to do and it’s a great time for community service,” says Hillsborough River State Park Preservation Society President, Dan Casella.
If you desire a more interactive ghostly experience, volunteer at the Haunted Trail! Volunteers are needed to set up and take down decorations, lead tours, and to dress up as the ghosts of virulent patients or even sketchy (unlicensed?) doctors.
Those interested can attend a Haunted Woods planning meeting on any of the following dates: Thursday, September 30, Tuesday, October 5, Wednesday, October 13, or Thursday, October 21. All meetings will be held at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Hall located at Parking Lot #3 at nearby Hillsborough River State Park, just 6 miles south of Zephyrhills at 15402 U.S. 301 North in Thonotosassa. All volunteers are required to submit a Florida State Park Volunteer application in order to participate in this event. For further details, please contact HRSP Park Services Specialist Patrick Potts at Patrick.potts@dep.state.fl.us.
The 18th Annual Haunted Woods at Hillsborough River State Park will take place on Friday, October 22 and Saturday, October 23 from 6-10 p.m. both nights.; $5 per person.
