Some Thing To Ponder Following Grid Classics
Following last weeks pre-season grid classics we are left to wonder if Wesley Chapel can be a legitimate title contender, what did the Zephyrhills win over River Ridge tell us about the Bulldogs?, and are the Pasco Pirates as strong as many believe them to be. While almost all interested local football fans know by now the highlights of last weeks games for those completely out of communication here briefly is what happened:
Pirate Offense Weak In 14-3 Victory
While few expected the Pasco Pirates to roll up 48 points again against Hernando almost no expected the Big Red to be held to a pair of touchdowns in a 14-3 win at Brooksville last Friday night. Quarterback JACOB GUY had a big night throwing for well over 100 yards including a 41-yard first period touchdown pass to TREY DUDLEY GILES. Hakeeme ASHMAR ran 26 yards for the other Pirate touchdown. Was it a poor Pirate offensive effort that saw JANARIAN GRANT held to minus yards rushing or a super Leopard defensive effort? It depends on who you ask.
Bulldogs Edge Knights 14-13; Host Wiregrass Friday
In a game switched from River Ridge the Zephyrhills Bulldogs edged the Royal nights 14-13 last Friday night. Quarterback CHRIS REAVES paced the Bulldogs offensive attack. After the Knights scored first Chris helped the Dogs answer back by directing an 88 yard touchdown drive. The Bulldogs are expecting a tougher go of things Friday night against the Wiregrass Bulls. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 at Bulldog Stadium
Wildcats Rout Fivay 33-6; Entertain CCC Friday
Wesley Chapel routed Fivay 33-6 in a game played Thursday night. The final score looks impressive until one realizes that Fivay is a first year football program. Only time will tell us if the Wildcats are improved this season. . Freshman quarterback ALEX McGOUGH stole the show for the Wildcats passing for just under 100 yards, including a touchdown. Starting signal caller ZACH ZIFER, a transfer from Pasco, looked impressive both throwing and running the football. He scored on a five yard touchdown run.
GAMES THIS WEEK:
- Wiregrass at ZEPHYRHILLS 7:30
- Clearwater Central Catholic at WESLEY CHAPEL 7:30
- PASCO, OPEN
