Hailey Mahadeen, currently a 9th grader at Sunlake High School, is one of 300 students in the nation named a Top Broadcom MASTERS finalist.  She was selected for her 8th grade science fair project – Cryoprotection — at Rushe Middle School, also in Land O’Lakes, last year.

Society for Science & the Public, and Broadcom Foundation selected the top 300 middle school students from a pool of 2,537 entrants and more than 5,000 nominees from fairs across the United States.

The next step in the Broadcom MASTERS takes place on September 18, when a panel of expert scientists, engineers, and educators select 30 finalists from the Top 300 MASTERS.  The 30 finalists and a parent or guardian will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC, to attend the Broadcom MASTERS Finals Week competition from October 19-24.  Finalists will present their research and compete in hands-on challenges for top prizes, including funds to attend a STEM summer camp and the $25,000 Samueli Prize.

According to their press release, the Broadcom MASTERS consists of the top 10 percent of 6th, 7th and 8th grade projects entered in Society-affiliated fairs around the country.
