Florida Hospital Zephyrhills will host its annual 33rd annual Lighting of the Trees Celebration rain or shine on Sunday, December 3, on the hospital’s campus at 7050 Gall Blvd., Zephyrhills.
As in years past, there will be a Circle of Trees complete with more than 50 Fraser Firs already decorated with 100 white lights. Individuals, community groups and businesses can adopt a tree at no charge and decorate it between noon and 3:30 pm. Trees available for adoption are Maryland, Missouri, North Dakota, Oregon, Texas and West Virginia, according to Jane Freeman, Community Relations Manager.
The idea is to decorate the trees in a tasteful way with ornaments and garland unique to that state. Paper ornaments are not preferred as they can’t withstand the elements, Freeman said. Decorators can even put a laminated or snipe sign on or in front of the tree with the decorators’ name, she said. While there aren’t prizes for the best trees, it’s a fun, festive and rewarding event, Freeman added.
This year, the event will include food trucks, Bounce Houses from 2 pm to 5 pm, visits with Santa and stocking stuffers from 3 pm to 4:30 pm; a two-horse driven carriage; live reenactments of the Living Nativity by the Church at Chancey Road, and a show-stopping extravaganza from 5:30 pm to 7 pm concluding with fireworks. Among the entertainers returning is Entertainment Revue comprised of more than 15 talented Tampa Bay singers and dancers ranging in age from elementary to high school. The Revue will provide a medley of Christmas songs and dance routines. Some of the girls have performed on Broadway, Freeman added.
Anyone interested in adopting one the trees mentioned can call Freeman at (813) 783-6192. Calls will be returned in the order which they were received.
