Blessing of the Backpacks

Posted on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 9:53 am

Florida Hospital Zephyrhills (FHZ) staff, under the leadership of CEO Randy Surber (center), donated 130 backpacks filled with school supplies and stacks of extra school materials to children and teens through the Samaritan Project of Zephyrhills on Tuesday, August 8. The annual Blessing of the Backpacks, a FHZ tradition, took place in the hospital’s chapel with a prayer given by Doug Higgins, MDiv, FHZ’s senior pastor and Samaritan Project Board member. Nick DeFord (second from left), who is the pastor for the First Church of the Nazarene in Zephyrhills and also the Samaritan Project’s Executive Director, then took the backpacks to the church for distribution. Also in the photo are Deford’s wife, Amie (third from left) and some of the FHZ staff who helped to promote the backpack drive.
